HI! I’M MARY ELLEN HEMANN

I’ve got the experience and qualifications to serve as Rocky River Clerk of Courts

THE WHY

I’m often asked why I’m running to be the next Clerk of Court serving the Westshore community. The answer is simple, I enjoy the challenge of hard work, serving the public and producing winning results for taxpayers.

The Clerk’s office is funded in part by your tax dollars—whether you live in Bay Village, Fairview Park, North Olmsted, Rocky River or Westlake.  When the job isn’t done well, it costs all of us more money.

The Clerk of Court’s role isn’t administrative work or processing paper—it’s actually a vital, highly skilled position that requires true legal experience, leadership skills, accountability, fiscal responsibility and knowing what each attorney and general public end user needs to navigate through the court system to achieve justice.  I have over 30 years of exactly that level of experience.

THE LEGAL

As a paralegal I’ve drafted documents, assisted attorneys with managing their documents, filed them with the court and tracked case progress for both civil and criminal cases at every court level in the county as well as federal court jurisdictions.  I’ve also owned a legal secretarial and court filing service business that supported approximately 70 sole practitioner attorneys.

In my legal career, I spent over a decade at Jones Day, managing large legal teams for Fortune 500 Restructuring and Real Estate finance transactions, including the Chrysler bankruptcy and the financing of Crocker Park.

In my role with Victor Javitch, I worked on behalf of defrauded viatical life insurance investors to secure the return of their stolen funds by locating, seizing and acquiring property and other assets for liquidation to cash for distribution back to the investors.

THE PUBLIC

In my 12 years as a Councilwoman for the City of North Olmsted, I know first-hand how difficult budgets can be when making decisions about the allocation of dollars and resources for safety, service, recreation, streets, employees and everything else necessary to successfully operate a city on behalf of 32,000 residents.

As the Ward 4 Councilwoman, I’ve been proud to work alongside my colleagues to reduce property taxes by one-third while expanding city safety services—including securing a new K-9 officer named Tarik.

I chaired North Olmsted’s Environmental Control Committee, where we lowered sewer rates, improved infrastructure to reduce flooding, and upgraded the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

As chairwoman of the Recreation, Public Parks and Buildings Committee, I led a $7 million parks renovation project and spearheaded the transformation of the City Ice Rink into one of Ohio’s best.

THE COMMUNITY AND FAMILY

Service to my community and devotion to my family are things I highly value.  I am a lifetime member of North Olmsted’s VFW Post 7647 and have proudly served as the Legislative Chairwoman for VFW District 7 of Ohio.  Honoring our veterans means everything to me.

When I’m not working or volunteering, you’ll find me at home, cooking, sewing, canning, practicing yoga—and spending time with my husband, Eddie Holden, and our dog Trixie.  I have taught home canning classes and am certified as a yoga instructor through the Cleveland Clinic and am also a certified Reiki master.

THE CONCLUSION

I’m running for Clerk of Court because I believe our communities deserve efficient, ethical, and professional service for everyone that interacts with the court to provide them with the fairness and justice to which we all are entitled.

As your Clerk of Court, you can rely on my experience and background to give you the same hard work and commitment I’ve shown throughout my career.

With your support, I will protect your tax dollars and keep your money where it belongs – In your home city.
